Highlighting – The sensational Bar Halliday.

A series of posts featuring some of the wonderful massage practitioners who generously provide us and our clients with their warm personalities and deft touch.

Barb is the best. Getting regular massage from her really contributes to my quality of life.

And so say all of us. Yes, that’s a real quote from someone who regularly receives massage from Bar (name not misspelled – that’s how we’ve always referred to her).

Bar has been working with us and us with her for longer than we can remember. She is part of the very fabric of Seated Massage. Loyal, trusted, experienced, giving and skilled.

We like to think you’ll be fortunate enough to one day have her visit your workplace. It won’t be the last time.

Please tell everyone who you are.

I’m Bar Halliday.

I grew up in Seattle and moved to Sydney 20 years ago. I have a background in studying mental and physical health, and have practiced remedial massage for 15 years.

Most recently, I’ve also completed studies in Library and Information Services and now work part-time in a local council library. It’s very rewarding to combine the two careers!

Is Corporate Massage ‘it’ for you or do you apply your skills in private practice? If yes, how and where?

I also practice massage alongside a great team at Exact Physiotherapy in Drummoyne.

It takes a special kind of person to work as a touch practitioner. Why do you do it?

It’s very rewarding to work with such a wide variety of individuals with each encounter being unique, even if I’ve been massaging the person for years! Clients present with varying levels of physical discomfort, stress and/or injury.

After their massage treatment, I enjoy the satisfaction of hearing that the person is feeling less pain and seeing their whole self in a more relaxed state.

How does what you do every day contribute to the greater good of your community, or thinking big, the planet!?

Less stress builds better communities!

I can think of one example to illustrate this idea. I have a regular client who experiences a great amount of stress in his work which leads to him having very tense muscles and suffering migraine headaches. This impacts on many aspects of his life, including his ability to enjoy quality time with his young children and extended family. By reducing his tension and headaches with massage, he is able to expand and enhance his time with his family and friends.

This is one small example of how treating one client can cause a ripple effect to help to improve the experiences in a wider community.

I see examples of transformation every day as I work with people from all backgrounds as they get a chance to talk, unwind and put matters into perspective.

The world will always be stressful; we even thrive when challenges, whether good or bad, confront us. But I believe that by helping people to be at ease as change does occur is one way to contribute to a better self and a better world.

And very importantly, because you’re a normal super-human and like to do normal super-human things too, what is the most normal thing about you?

I’ve always enjoyed walking across this amazing planet. And I read books, lots of books!

Incredible woman. Incredible practitioner. Thanks for being on the journey with us Bar.
