Michelle has been plying her trade for only a short time however she has already become a practitioner extraordinaire in the minds and for the bodies of many a Seated Massage client. We think she’s awesome!
Here’s a brief rundown on who she is and why she does what she does. Read on ..
Please tell everyone who you are.
Hi, I’m Michelle (Shelley) from Balmain in Sydney.
I’m originally from London and have lived in Australia with my husband Neil for 8 years! My background is in Children’s Book Publishing where I worked for Usborne Publishing for many years. I came upon the Massage World later in life but wish I’d done it years ago!
Is Corporate Massage ‘it’ for you or do you apply your skills in private practice? If yes, how and where?
As well as the Corporate clientele, I have my own clients in Balmain. I ‘warm up’ for a Chiropractor on the Northern Beaches. I also have local Aged Care Customers and do recovery massage sessions for the Rabbitohs Rugby League Team. (Ed: Very in demand!)
It takes a special kind of person to work as a touch practitioner. Why do you do it?
It’s a real privilege to be able to put my hands on someone and have a positive effect on their day/week/life in general. It’s not all altruism though – I get a real buzz from the affect that therapeutic massage can have on a client’s well being.
I love my work and every morning I just can’t wait to improve someone’s day!
How does what you do every day contribute to the greater good of your community, or thinking big, the planet!?
Taking time out to have a massage can help people re-connect with their bodies and can halt the onset of chronic tension, which is a symptom I see so often.
In turn this helps them in all aspects of their lives and then has a domino effect on everyone else in their lives and so on…. Massage Therapy, whether it’s Remedial or Relaxation can help in so many ways, not just for the soft tissue.
The Mind also needs to relax and aromatherapy can certainly help with relaxing a busy/stressed mind. A balanced body and mind helps you function better in your daily work life, community life and with interaction in general.
This leads to a more productive day/week/year and overall less sickness which on a larger scale could be a huge drain on the economy.
And very importantly, because you’re a normal super-human and like to do normal super-human things too, what is the most normal thing about you? (C’mon, it’s just us and thousands of others reading …)
I’m just a Pom from London town!
Michelle, you’re much more than that. You’re simply amazing! Thanks for allowing us all to learn a little more about you and why you do what you do. We love you!
