Positive touch quite simply sustains life. Without it, our health both physical and mental, is compromised. With it, we can all help to heal the world physically and mentally and teach each other the difference between positive and negative touch and to not be afraid of touch given with the right intention.
Massage from a credible source, can be a powerful tool in quieting the mind and engendering beneficial feelings.
The irrefutable evidence is universal. Gentle physical touch, such as massage, regulates blood pressure. It reduces stress hormones such as cortisol and releases pleasure hormones such as endorphins as well as oxytocin which is more commonly known as ‘the love hormone’. And it activates the bodies vagus nerve which is intimately involved with our compassionate response.
Dacher Keltner Ph.D, Professor of Psychology at U.C Berkeley has researched how touch can bring us emotional balance and better mental health. He states:
Proper uses of touch truly have the potential to transform the practice of medicine—and it’s cost effective to boot.
